Description

Update log:
- version 4 (9/2016): updated to a more complete chart; more and better patterns, better genotypes.
added a special segment for dominant white. also added the 'not genetically proven' tag to the patterns that are still vague when it comes to their genetic cause.
- version 3 (6/2015): moved/updated some patterns
- version 2 (3/2014): updated pattern names
- version 1 (1/2014)

/Note:
If you want to use some genetic codes for your HARPG horses: At the _ you can fill in "what you want"
For example: E_ can be EE or Ee, you can choose if you want your horse to be a chestnut carrier or not.
Rn_ can be RnRn or nRn ("n" stands for "non-roan" in this case. its often the wild-type allele that is the usual phenotype instead of the mutation (roan in this case))
T_ can be TT or nT
Etc.

A _ before a slash, like "_/Rb_", can be any basecolor what you want. For example: E_/aa/Rb_ (and a fully filled example: Ee/aa/nRb) = a black horse with rabicano.

/Note2: KIT gene mutations can produce 4 different patterns: roan, tobiano, sabino1 and dominant white. This means a horse can't carry those 4 patterns at the same time. The KIT gene only has two 'spots' available, so the horse can only carry two alleles. A sabino1 roan can't be dominant white, because it already has _/Sb1Rn on KIT.

/Note3: Dominant white (or 'White', 'White Spotting') is a term for a group of 25+ white spotting mutations of the KIT gene. Most of them are believed to be lethal when present in homozygous state. The exceptions are: W15 (which produces a complete white phenotype in homozygous state) and W20 (which is a widespread mutation and many horses have been tested to be heterozygous and homozygous for it). There also exist combinations of W5 and W20 (_/W5W20) and W22 and W20 (_/W20W22) These W5W20 or W20W22 horses have a white or near-white phenotype, with W20 boosting the W5 or W22.

/Note4: Frame Overo can only be heterozygous (_/nO), because homozygous Frame Overo causes Overo Lethal White Syndrome.

/Note5: Blood marks are mostly seen on gray horses, the "blood" part is the part of the horse's body that simply didn't turn gray.

/Note6: Splash SW2 and SW3 are also believed to be lethal when homozygous. But they have been found in combination with SW1. SW1 and SW3 are mutations of the MITF gene, but SW2 is a mutation of the PAX3 gene, which means, in theory, a horse can carry SW1, SW2 and SW3 at the same time: _/Sw1Sw3/nSw2. (combinations of splash found: _/Sw1Sw3 (completely white), _/Sw1Sw1/nSw2 (completely white), _/nSw1/nSw2 (a bit like the SW2/SW3 phenotype on the chart))
* Update: There's been a horse tested _/Sw1/Sw2Sw2, so homozygous Sw2 is not lethal. The horse has a completely white phenotype.

wat betekent dominant wit? ik heb dat nooit echt begrepen, het heeft iets met de genen te maken?
